At the Regular Meeting on February 12, the Glynn County Board of Education unanimously approved several key appointments. They include:

- Steve Waters, current Executive Director of Athletics/Facilities, will take on the position of Assistant Superintendent of Athletics and Operations.
- Michele Seals, current Executive Director of Human Resources, will serve as Chief of Staff.
- Terrance Haywood, current Facility Director, will become the Executive Director of Facility Management and Construction.
These appointments will be effective on July 1. Prior to these announcements, the Board approved the January 2025 minutes and the following consent agenda items:
- December 2024 Financial Report: Year-to-date revenues are at 71.3% of budget, while expenditures are at 45.2%. The budget position stands at 50% as of December 2024.
- The Gude Group Agreement: Approved the Gude Group Management agreement for the ESPLOST V oversight contract extension. Proposed work and billing will begin in January 2025, completing the contract in June 2030, while continuing ESPLOST IV work through June 2026.
- Naviance Renewal: Approve the renewal of the Naviance Premium platform in the amount of $53,611.54 for the 2025-2026 school year. Naviance serves as the platform through which our district completes the Bridge ((Building Resourceful Individuals to Develop Georgia’s Economy) Bill requirements for grades 6-12 as required by Senate Bill 401.
Work Session Update
During the Work Session on February 6, the Board also received updates on:
- Strategic Plan Progress: Two initiatives under the Effective Leadership goal area and two under the Coherent Instructional System goal area are now complete, reflecting shifts in progress status across two of the five goal areas. The strategic plan aligns with Georgia’s Systems of Continuous Improvement Framework as outlined by the Georgia Department of Education.
- Vape Detector Update: Since the installation of vape detectors at BHS and GA in October 2024, and at GICCA in December 2024, vaping incidents in bathrooms have decreased and school safety has been enhanced. The detectors, which monitor nicotine, masking, air quality, sound, and health index, aim to address vaping-related health concerns and improve the overall air quality in school facilities.
- Open Gate Update: The weapons detection system is now operational at all schools and the district office, enhancing safety and security through specific screening procedures for student arrivals and visitors. This initiative aims to create a safer environment for all students and staff members.
- CTAE Program Update: Assistant Superintendent Eric Benson reported on the recent Teacher Externship, where 23 educators and administrators shadowed employees at various local organizations to better understand workforce needs.
- House Bill (HB) 581: Effective January 1, 2025, this bill implements a statewide floating homestead exemption that limits the annual rise in property tax values, aiding homeowners in managing tax increases. While this exemption affects property taxes for cities, counties, and school districts, the Board has “opted in” to maintain its Scarlett Williams homestead exemption, which freezes the valuation base year.
